When developing or updating your business plan it is important to understand the markets you intend to enter. You can start to develop that understanding by reviewing available statistics. Then you can follow the Newsletter to keep track of how things are changing. That way you will be able to plan ahead and avoid the necessity of quickly reacting when your sales start to fall.

• World Statistics from the United Nations Food and Agriculture Agency.
  • The FAOSTAT Database includes production volume and value for mushrooms (combined with truffles) for many countries around the world. It takes a couple of clicks to create a list and graph of mushroom production by country. Other queries are more complex. Data is generally a couple of years old.
  
  
  
• Statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture:
  • U.S. and state data on mushroom acreage, yields, production, price, value, sales, and use. Other series reported include trade by product by country, various price series, and world production. Here you will find a multitude of tables MicroSoft Excel format. Data-set updated August 31, 2011. U.S. and state data.
  • The annual U.S. Mushroom Reports including Agaricus and specialty species production data in text files or PDF files from 1967 to the present.
  • USDA's Economic Research Service also publishes several tables of mushroom data that you can download in Excel Spreadsheet format.

  • This is a database system. You will need to create a free account then sign on and learn how to extract the data you need. The database contains Data on U.S. Imports - in great detail current to about 45 days ago.
  
  
  
• Statistics from Europe:
  • This is a database system from the European Commission. It includes data on mushrooms, but you will have to dig in to the database to uncover information that may be critical to you. The database contains current Statistics for the European Union and a wide variety of reports.
