Chester County Mushroom Farming
by Bruce Edward Mowday

Cover: Chester County Mushroom Farming

This new paper-back book highlights the rich history of mushroom farming at the epicenter of U.S. mushroom production - Chester County and Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. It is one of nearly 4,000 books in the Images of America series published by Arcadia Publishing. As the series title suggests, the book is simply a collection of captioned photographs. In this case they are historic, black and white, photos depicting the mushroom cultivation process, the development of the American Mushroom Institute (AMI), research activities at Penn State University and promotional work by AMI.

As the above description suggests, the book is about the history of AMI as much as the Chester County area, since AMI was born and developed there. If you have been involved in that history, you'll recognize many names and faces throughout the book. If not, the book provides a nice overview of the development of the AMI and its activities in support of mushroom farmers in Chester County as well as elsewhere in the U.S.
